Manchester United became the first team to score 2000 Premier League goals after midfielder Scott McTominay slotted home a fiery drive from the edge of the penalty box to score the opening goal of their 3-1 win over Norwich at Carrow Road.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who both missed penalties on the evening, got themselves on the scoresheet as United moved up in the Premier League table, three days after securing their first away win in eight months over Partizan in the Europa League.

Though United have been going through a rough patch of late, their history in the Premier League is unmatched. Thus, here we take a look at all the goalscorers who have scored the club’s milestone goals:

FIRST GOAL

Striker Mark Hughes scored Manchester United’s first-ever Premier League goal in a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United away from home in 1992. The same game saw Sheffield’s Brian Deane scoring the first goal of the newly-formed league.

100th GOAL

Only a year later, winger Andrei Kanchelskis scored United’s 100th Premier League goal in a convincing 3-1 win over Wimbledon at home. Gary Pallister had broken the deadlock in 53rd minute only to see Wimbledon’s John Fashanu scoring the equalizer inside 10 minutes. United responded within a minute through Hughes and Kanchelskis put the icing on the cake.

500th GOAL

It took six years for Manchester United to reach the 500-goal mark and they did it in absolute style. Scheduled to visit Nottingham Forest at City Ground, the game had three goals inside the opening 10 minutes, with Dwight Yorke scoring the opener for the visiting team. Forest responded within minutes but Andy Cole was on hand to restore United’s lead within no time, thus completing 500 Premier League goals for his club.

United ran riot as they defeated Forest 8-1 away from home, which until Leicester’s recent humiliation of Southampton, was the largest away win in the Premier League history.

United reached the 1000-goal landmark just as they started their Premier League campaign; on a losing term. Up against Middlesbrough away from home in October 2005, United’s defence crumbled under the pressure and was duly punished by the home team who hammered four past Edwin van der Sar. United’s consolation goal came through Cristiano Ronaldo, which in fact was the club’s 1000th Premier League goal.

1500th GOAL

Another landmark achieved in a defeat. United welcomed Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford in December 2011 and found themselves 2-0 down inside 51 minutes. Striker Dimitar Berbatov responded inside a minute, which not only brought United back in the game but completed the club’s 1500-goal mark. His brace, however, was in vain as Grant Hanley scored late in the game to give his team an important away win.
