The Saudi Pro League is the top division in the Saudi football league system.

The tournament - initially known as the Saudi Categorization League - was founded in 1974-75, which included all top-performing clubs from their respective regional leagues of the East, West, and Central regions.

The initial season involved 16 teams which was won by Al-Nassr.

The 1976-77 season witnessed the start of the first-ever top division professional football league in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Al-Hilal emerged victorious in the eight-team Saudi league. The number of teams increased to 10 from the following season.

Until the 1989-90 season, the Saudi top division League had been operating in a round-robin format.

Thereafter, the Saudi Federation merged the football League with the King's Cup in one tournament and the addition of the Golden Box.

The top four teams of the regular league season would compete in an end of season knockout stage named the Golden Box to crown the champions of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi league later became fully professional in 2007.

Owing to Saudi clubs’ successful and consistent performances in the AFC Champions League, the association is also regularly ranked with the highest coefficient in Asia.

Meanwhile, Al-Hilal are the most successful team in the Saudi Pro League with 19 titles. Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr share the second spot with nine titles each.

Al-Hilal are the reigning champions of the Saudi Pro League after winning the 2023-24 season. They pipped Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli Saudi to clinch another league title. Get Saudi Pro League winners list.
