East Bengal will square off against arch-rivals ATK Mohun Bagan in their Group B match of the Durand Cup 2022 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday, August 28. The match will kick off at 6:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
Under the tutelage of new manager Stephen Constantine, East Bengal head into the Kolkata Derby after playing a goalless draw against Rajasthan United in their previous fixture. Earlier, the Red and Gold brigade started their Durand Cup 2022 campaign with a 0-0 draw against the Indian Navy.
With two points from as many games, East Bengal are currently placed third in the Durand Cup Group B standings.
On the other hand, the star-studded ATK Mohun Bagan have had an ordinary start to their Durand Cup campaign. After being stunned 2-3 by Rajasthan United in their opening fixture, the Juan Ferrando-coached ATK Mohun Bagan were held to a 1-1 draw by Mumbai City FC in their last match.
The Mariners are currently placed fourth in the Group B standings with just one point from two games and need to win to stay in contention for a quarter-final berth.
East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are the most successful teams in Durand Cup history, having clinched the coveted title 16 times each.
