Cristiano Ronaldo became the top scorer in Euros with two late goals in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Hungary on Tuesday with the victory capping a positive start to A Seleção’s title defence in Euro 2020.

The 36-year-old Portugal captain, who earlier scripted history by making a record-breaking fifth appearance in the tournament, opened his account for the night with an 87th-minute penalty goal.

Ronaldo’s 10th goal - which saw move past France great Michel Platini’s tally of nine - made him the first-ever player to score in five European championships (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020).

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 11th Euro goal and second of the night came five minutes later in stoppage time. After a couple of one-twos with midfielder Rafa Silva, the Portugal skipper took the ball around Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi to slot home his team’s third and complete a comfortable victory.

The Juventus striker has also equalled the record for the highest goalscorer in international football. Iranian legend Ali Daei held the record with 109 goals in 148 games, and Ronaldo, with 179 caps to his name, netted his 109th goal for Portugal in the final group stage game of Euro 2020.
