Indian Super League (ISL) club ATK Mohun Bagan will host Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur City FC in their AFC Cup 2022 Inter-Zonal semi-final at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Wednesday, September 7. The match will kick off at 7:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
Under head coach Juan Ferrando, ATK Mohun Bagan qualified for the AFC Cup 2022 Inter-Zonal semi-finals after topping Group D standings with six points from three matches.
The Mariners started their AFC Cup 2022 campaign with a disappointing 2-4 defeat against two-time defending I-League champions Gokulam Kerala. However, Juan Ferrando’s men bounced back strongly to thrash Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings 4-0 and Maldivian club Maziya S&RC 5-2 to book their place in the inter-zonal semi-finals of the AFC Cup 2022.
Interestingly, ATK Mohun Bagan pipped Bashundhara Kings on head-to-head results to progress after both the teams were tied on six points at the end of the group stage.
On the other hand, two-time Malaysian League title winners Kuala Lumpur City FC defeated Indonesia-based PSM Makassar 5-2 in the ASEAN Zonal final to qualify for the knockouts.
Having previously featured in the AFC Champions League on two occasions, Kuala Lumpur have also clinched three Malaysian FA Cups and three Malaysian Charity Shield.
Meanwhile, ATK Mohun Bagan will look for redemption after suffering a 0-6 defeat against Uzbekistan-based FC Nasaf in the same stage at last year’s AFC Cup.
