Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is the most popular battle royale game in India.

Developed and published by South Korean video game company Krafton, BGMI is an online multiplayer battle royale game that was first released for Android devices on July 2, 2021. It was later launched for iOS users on August 18, 2021.

Previously known as PUBG Mobile India, BGMI is a TPP-FPP survival shooter game in which up to 100 players compete in a battle royale.

It is a type of large-scale last man standing deathmatch in which gamers battle to be the last one standing. Players can enter the match as individuals or as small groups of up to four.

Each BGMI game begins with gamers parachuting from a plane onto one of the following seven maps:

  • Erangel (Themed / Normal)
  • Miramar
  • Vikendi
  • Livik (Themed / Normal)
  • Karakin
  • Sanhok
  • Nusa

While BGMI has over 100 million downloads on Google Play store, it was banned by the Indian government  under section 69A of the IT Act in July 2022 due to security concerns.

The game was reported to be interacting with Chinese servers and also led to several crimes across the country.

BGMI unban date in India

The BGMI unban date in India is May 29, 2023 after the Indian government removed the ban on May 26, 2023.

After a gap of 10 months, the BGMI ban was lifted after Krafton committed to complying with the country's laws.

“We are highly grateful to the Indian authorities for allowing us to resume operations of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). We would like to extend our gratitude to our Indian gaming community for their support and patience over the past few months,” Krafton India CEO Sean Hyunil Soh said in a statement.

The popular game was made available to download on May 27 for Android users and May 29 for iOS users. However, it was playable only after May 29.
