Dota 2 will be one of the seven esports events to be staged at Asian Games 2023 to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8.

Released in 2013, Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game developed by Valve Corporation. It is a sequel to the Defense of the Ancients (DotA) video game that was launched in 2003.

The popular esports game is played in matches between two teams of five players. The main objective of every team is to occupy and defend their own separate base on the map. 

World’s leading Dota 2 players will represent their respective nations for the coveted prize at Hangzhou 2023.

Asian Games 2023 Dota 2 schedule

The Dota 2 esports event at Asian Games 2023 will start on Friday, September 29 and run till Monday, October 2.

The Group Stage of Dota 2 event will kick off on September 29, while the quarter-finals are scheduled for September 30.

The semi-finals will be held on October 1. The bronze medal and gold medal matches will take place on October 2.

Asian Games 2023 Dota 2 teams

As many as 14 nationals teams will compete in the Dota 2 event at Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. 

China, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Nepal are the four seeded teams that will feature at Asiad 2023.

India, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Mongolia, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Uzbekistan are the 10 unseeded teams that will take part in the esports competition.

The Indian Dota 2 team at Asian Games 2023 will be led by captain Darshan Bata. Krish Gupta, Abhishek Yadav, Ketan Goyal and Shubham Goli will be part of India’s five-member Dota 2 team.

Asian Games 2023 Dota 2 format

According to the Dota 2 format at Asian Games, the 10 unseeded teams will be divided into one group of four and two groups of three teams each. 

Every team will compete with the other sides in their group once in a round-robin format. Matches in the group stage will be contested in a best-of-one format.

The top teams after the end of the group stages will advance to the quarter-finals. The four-seeded teams will square off against the teams that qualified from the group stage.

Playoffs including quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will be held in a single-eliminator format. All matches will be played in best-of-three series.
