The India vs New Zealand World Test Championship final will be played in the presence of as many as 4,000 fans, the Hampshire County Club has confirmed.

India will play New Zealand in the WTC final from June 18-22 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Fans have been allowed at the Rose Bowl since the COVID situation in the UK has been largely in control. Recently, 1,500 fans were allowed to attend the county game between Leicestershire and Hampshire at the venue.

“I understand 50 per cent of the permitted crowds (at the WTC final) will be taken by the ICC for its sponsors and other stakeholders, and we will be selling the remaining 2,000 tickets,” Hampshire County Club head Rod Bransgrove told Cricbuzz.

“We have already received more than double applications from the fans. It is a high-interest game and there is a good demand for it.”

The United Kingdom is currently averaging around 2,000 COVID cases daily. In stark contrast, India has produced over 300,000 cases every day in the last month.

India is currently undergoing a quarantine process in Mumbai for two weeks and will depart for the UK on June 2. The players will then spend 10 days in quarantine in Southampton, but they will be allowed to train during the time.
