The Tamil Nadu Premier League 2022 (TNPL) is set to start on June 23 and will run till July 31, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) announced on Thursday.

The sixth edition of Tamil Nadu’s T20 competition will be played at four venues, namely, Tirunelveli, Natham, Coimbatore and Salem.

TNPL 2022 will begin in Tirunelveli (ICL Shankar Nagar Ground) on June 23 and will stay there till June 29. The competition will then move to Dindigul (NPR College Ground) from June 30 to July 7 before it reaches Coimbatore.

The SNR College Ground in Coimbatore will play host to the matches from July 10 to July 16 and the Salem Cricket Foundation in Salem will then host the final leg from July 19 to 24.

The Salem Cricket Foundation will host the eliminator (July 26) as well as the qualifier I (July 27) while qualifier II (July 29) and the final (July 31) will be held in Coimbatore. Interestingly, it is for the first time in the competition’s history that MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has been excluded from the list of venues.

Over the course of the tournament, six doubleheaders have been scheduled, the first of which will start at 3:15 PM IST and the second match will begin at 7:15 PM IST.

There is no official word on whether or not the fans will be allowed at the stadiums, however, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association confirmed that the decision will be taken later.

"We sincerely hope to see the return of fans to the stadiums during the sixth edition of TNPL, however, based on the situation and government guidelines, we shall take a decision closer to the event," TNCA said.

Also for the first time in its history, TNPL 2022 might also see the debut of the Decision Review System (DRS).

“Most of the franchises were in favour of employing the DRS.  If we get sufficient sponsorships to make use of the technology, then DRS definitely will be made use of in the upcoming TNPL,” a source was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Meanwhile, Chepauk Super Gillies will be the defending champions in TNPL 2022. The record three-time winners beat Ruby Trichy Warriors in the final last season. Apart from Chepauk Super Gillies, only Tuti Patriots (now defunct) and Siechem Madurai Panthers have won the Tamil Nadu Premier League in the past.
