After a 2-1 defeat in the ODI series in their backyard against Pakistan, the South Africa cricket team will look to make amends in the four-match T20I series scheduled to start on Saturday, April 10.

While the first two T20Is will be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, the remaining two matches of the series will be hosted in Centurion’s SuperSport Park.

The Proteas enjoy a slim advantage over Pakistan in their T20I head-to-head, both overall as well as in South Africa, but their increasing injury problems and absence of several big names mean they will head into the series as underdogs. Watch South Africa vs Pakistan live in India!

South Africa will miss the services of their star players like Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, who have all been released by CSA to play in the Indian T20 League

Furthermore, the Proteas will also be without their newly-appointed limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma, who has been ruled out of the T20I series with a hamstring strain. Heinrich Klaasen will captain South Africa in Bavuma’s absence.

Reeza Hendricks, who took paternity leave after the birth of his first child, is also sidelined. To make things worse, Rassie van der Dussen has been deemed doubtful for the first match of the T20I series with a grade one left quadriceps strain.

Meanwhile, opening batsman Aiden Markram has been added to South Africa’s T20I squad along with all-rounders Andile Phehlukwayo and Wiaan Mulder, and pace bowler Daryn Dupavillon.

Pakistan, on the other hand, have a relatively full-strength squad at hand with none of their players featuring in the Indian T20 League. Furthermore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to welcome Fakhar Zaman into the T20I fold following his brilliant performances in the ODI series.
