The Shere Bangla National Stadium, also known as the Mirpur Stadium, is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Established in 2006, the Shere Bangla National Stadium has a capacity of around 25,000 and is one of the biggest sports stadiums in Bangladesh.

The first international match that took place in this stadium was an ODI between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in March 2006. 

This venue also hosted games during the 2011 50-over World Cup, while the first T20 international at the venue took place in October 2011. This venue also hosted several Asia Cup games in the 2012, 2014 and 2016 editions.

The finals of the 2014 Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2014 Women’s T20 World Cup were also hosted at this venue. 

With that in mind, here’s a closer look at some of the records and T20 stats from the Shere Bangla National Stadium.

Shere Bangla National Stadium T20 records

Most runs

Mushfiqur Rahim has scored the most runs in T20s at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. He’s scored 2,989 runs in T20s at this stadium while representing several different domestic teams and franchises besides also notching up runs here while donning Bangladesh’s colours. He has scored 18 fifties at this venue in T20s and averages more than 30.

In T20Is, Mahmudullah has made the most runs at this venue. He’s scored 750 runs and notched up two fifties while batting on this ground.

Most wickets

No player has more wickets at this stadium than all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has 160 scalps at an average of less than 20 and best bowling figures of 5/16 on this ground. Shakib Al Hasan notched up these impressive numbers while representing Bangladesh and many other dometic teams and franchises.

In T20 internationals, Shakib and Mustafizur Rahman have both taken 38 wickets on this ground. The latter though has got the scalps in fewer matches and has a better average too.

Highest individual score

The highest individual score in T20 internationals on this ground was scored by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad, who made an unbeaten 62-ball 111 against Bangladesh in a T20 World Cup game in March 2014. His knock set up a 50-run win for Pakistan.

At the domestic level, West Indies batter Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 146 off 69 balls for Rangpur Riders against Dhaka Dynamites in a 2017 Bangladesh Premier League match is the highest individual score here. His knock featured five fours and 18 sixes and helped the Riders to a 57-run win.

Best bowling figures

In T20Is, West Indies’ Keemo Paul’s 5/15 against Bangladesh in December 2018 is the best bowling figures at this stadium. His spell helped the Windies to a 50-run win.

On the domestic circuit, Khulna Tigers’ Mohammad Amir boasts the best bowling figures on this ground. He finished with figures of 6/17 against Rajshahi Royals in Qualifier 1 of Bangladesh Premier League 2020 and helped the Tigers to a 27-run win.

Highest team total

The highest team total on this ground was made by Fortune Barishal against Minister Rajshahi in a Bangabandhu T20 Cup match in December 2020. Thanks to a ton from Parvez Hossain Emon, Fortune Barishal successfully chased down the target of 221 with eight wickets to spare.

The highest team total in T20 internationals at this venue was recorded by Bangladesh against West Indies in December 2018. The hosts made 211/4 in December 2018 and went on to register a 36-run victory.

Lowest team total

New Zealand hold the record for being the team with the lowest total in T20Is on this ground. They made 60 against Bangladesh in September 2021 and were condemned to a seven-wicket loss.

At the franchise level, Khulna Tigers’ 44 against Rangpur Riders in November 2016 is the lowest team total on this ground. The Riders went on to win this 2016 Bangladesh Premier League match by nine wickets.

Highest partnership

West Indies’ Chris Gayle and New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum hold the honour for having the highest partnership on this ground in T20s. The Rangpur Riders pair put on an unbeaten 201-run stand for the second wicket against Dhaka Dynamites in Bangladesh Premier League 2017. This partnership helped Rangpur Riders to a 57-run win.

On the international front, Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah and Tamim Iqbal have the record for the highest partnership at this venue. They put on an unbeaten 132-run stand for Bangladesh against West Indies in December 2012. Despite this partnership, the Windies won the game by 18 runs.
