SLC Reds will square off against SLC Blues in the SLC Invitational T20 League 2022 final at R.Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo on Monday, August 15. The match will start at 7:30 Indian Standard Time (IST).
Led by Sri Lanka wicket-keeper batter Kusal Mendis, SLC Reds stormed into the SLC Invitational T20 League final after finishing at the top of the 2022 standings. With two wins and one defeat, the Reds accumulated four points to top the league standings.
On the other hand, SLC Blues qualified for the summit clash after finishing second in the league table. The Blues also won two of their three matches in the league phase, but finished second due to an inferior net run-rate.
Interestingly, SLC Reds had also reached the final of the inaugural SLC Invitational T20 League last year before suffering a 42-run defeat against eventual champions SLC Greys in the summit clash.
Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis has been the leading run-scorer in the ongoing T20 tournament, amassing 150 runs in three matches at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 122.95.
For the Blues, Ashen Bandara has been the highest run-scorer in SLC Invitational T20 League 2022, scoring 94 runs in three matches at an average of 94.
In the bowling department, SLC Reds fast bowler Asitha Fernando has been the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, having picked eight wickets in three matches at an economy of 6.58.
Praveen Jayawickrama has been the wrecker-in-chief for the Blues, having bagged five wickets in three matches at an economy of 6.08.
Having defeated SLC Blues by 33 runs in their previous meeting in the ongoing SLC Invitational T20 League 2022, last year’s runners-up SLC Reds will start as slight favourites in 2022 final.
