Perera picked up the injury on his left hamstring while fielding during Sri Lanka's 71-run defeat in an absolute rain-affected game in Durban on Sunday.

Confirming his absence, Cricket Sri Lanka released an official statement which stated that no replacement will be sent for the remaining two games.

"Kusal Janith Perera, who sustained an injury in his left hamstring; while fielding during the 3rd ODI will not take further part in the South African series. No replacement will be sent.”

Perera, who scored an unbeaten 153 in the second Test at Durban, was instrumental in his side's historic Test series win over the Proteas. The Lankans though failed to replicate their form in the ODI series, losing all three matches on the trout and handing the host an easy series win. The visitors lost the first ODI by 8 wickets and second by 113 runs.

Perera, who didn't bat during the third ODI owing to his injury, too has failed to find a notable success in limited-over format of late, but Cricket Sri Lanka will be hoping he gets back to his full fitness for the three-match T20I series.

Meanwhile, the remaining two ODIs are set to be played in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town respectively, while the T20 series will begin from March 19.
