The Women’s Ashes 2023 will start with the one-off Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on June 22.

Featuring arch-rivals England and Australia, the upcoming Women’s Ashes Test will be played across five days for the first time in history. Traditionally, Women’s Test matches have been staged over four days as opposed to the five in men’s category.

Since 2018, the Australian women’s cricket team has featured in four Test matches. All the four Test matches have ended in draws. A five-day Women’s Ashes Test will increase the chances of forcing a result.

Ahead of the marquee series, the visitors suffered a massive blow as captain Meg Lanning was ruled out due to medical reasons.

In the absence of Meg Lanning, wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy will captain Australia in the Women’s Ashes 2023. Australia’s star all-rounder, Tahlia McGrath, has been named vice-captain.

On the other hand, the England women’s cricket team will be led by captain Heather Knight. Hosts England have added the uncapped duo of Danielle Gibson and Lauren Filer in their 15-member squad. Both cricketers have been rewarded for their impressive performances for Western Storm in domestic cricket.

Australia won the last edition of Women’s Ashes in 2022. They are also the most successful team in Women’s Ashes history, having won nine titles so far.

Australia Women have a superior head-to-head record against England Women in Test cricket. Australia Women have won 12 of the 51 Tests that they have played so far. England Women have registered nine victories while 30 matches have ended in draws.

The last time these two sides met in Test cricket, the match ended in a draw at Manuka Oval in Canberra in 2022.
