If they lose against India, Australia will be knocked out if Afghanistan defeat Bangladesh in their final Super 8 match.

Afghanistan: Afghanistan’s upset victory over Australia has opened up Group 1 of the Super 8 stage. While Afghanistan lost to India by 47 runs in their opening Super 8 fixture, they are currently placed third in the Super 8 Group 1 standings with two points. With a NRR of -0.650, Afghanistan need to beat Bangladesh in their final Super 8 match and hope India defeat Australia. In case Australia wins by a smaller margin, Afghanistan need to overtake Australia's NRR to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals.

Bangladesh: Afghanistan’s win has kept Bangladesh’s semi-final hopes alive in the tournament for another day. Despite losing both their Super 8 games against India and Australia, Bangladesh still have a mathematical chance to qualify for the semi-finals. With an NRR of -2.489, Bangladesh will need a miracle to secure their place in the last four. In order to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals, Bangladesh need to beat Afghanistan by a huge margin and hope India defeat Australia by a good margin.

Super 8 Group 2 T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final qualification scenarios

South Africa: South Africa have been one of the dominant teams in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and United States. With victories over England and the United States, South Africa are currently placed at the top of the Super 8 Group 2 standings with four points. With a net run rate of +0.625, South Africa will need to beat West Indies in their final Super 8 clash to finish as Group 2 toppers. If they lose, South Africa could get eliminated if England beat USA by either 10 runs or at least an over to spare.

West Indies: Co-hosts West Indies are currently placed second in Super 8 Group 2 standings. With a win over USA and a loss against England, West Indies have a net run rate of +1.814. The Rovman Powell-led West Indies will qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals if they beat South Africa in their final Super 8 fixture. If West Indies lose, they will rely on the USA to beat England to maintain a superior NRR.

However, if West Indies beat South Africa and England secure a narrow win over the USA, the co-hosts could be eliminated based on an inferior net run rate.

United States: Despite losing both their Super 8 games against the West Indies and South Africa, the United States still have a mathematical chance to qualify for the semi-finals. With zero points and a net run rate of -2.908, the United States will need a miracle to secure a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals.
