Defending champions Karnataka will lock horns with Jammu and Kashmir on the opening day of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 (SMAT) on January 10 at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy returns after almost nine months of hiatus, which makes this year’s edition all more special. Apart from being played amidst the ongoing pandemic, all eyes will be on the comeback man, S. Sreesanth, who will be plying his trade with Kerala.

The 12th edition of the competition will be played between 38 teams - divided between six groups; five Elite groups and one Plate group - across six different venues in the group stage - Bangalore, Kolkata, Vadodara, Indore, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu. The competition will then move to Ahmedabad for the knockout round before it reaches its conclusion on January 31.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 will see a plethora of Indian talents, and one can rightly expect a few to be a part of India’s T20I series against England in March, if not for the 2020 T20 World Cup
