The Sri Lanka cricket team will take on Afghanistan in a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series starting on Friday.

As per the Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan ODIs 2024 schedule, all three matches of the series will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on February 9, 11 and 14. Live streaming will be available in India.

Ranked seventh in the ODI rankings, Sri Lanka will be high on confidence after hammering Afghanistan by 10 wickets in the only Test of the multi-format series.

Led by captain Kusal Mendis, the hosts will aim to continue their dominance in the upcoming three-match ODI series. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is yet to announce their squad.

Sri Lanka head into the 50-over format after securing a 2-0 ODI series win over Zimbabwe at home last month.

On the other hand, the Afghanistan cricket team will look to turn things around after their disappointing show in the recently concluded Test match.

Afghanistan, currently ranked ninth in the ODI rankings, will be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi.

The visitors will miss the services of their star leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who is yet to recover from his back injury. In the absence of Rashid, youngster Qais Ahmed has been included in the 15-man squad as his replacement.

Furthermore, pacer Mohammad Saleem has been sidelined with a hamstring injury. All-rounder Gulbadin Naib has earned a recall to the ODI side after he impressed in Afghanistan’s last series against India.

Seamer Naveed Zadran and left-arm pacer Fareed Ahmad have also been included in the ODI squad.

Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan ODI head-to-head

Sri Lanka hold a superior head-to-head record against Afghanistan in ODI cricket, winning seven of the 12 matches played between these two sides. Afghanistan registered four victories while one game was abandoned due to rain.

The last time these two sides met in the ODI format, Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in an ICC World Cup 2023 league match in Pune.
