The 2023 South Africa vs Netherlands ODI series is slated to get started on March 31 and will end on April 2.

This bilateral series is a part of the Future Tour Programs (FTP) and could determine whether the Proteas get a direct entry into the 2023 ODI World Cup later this year.

The two-match ODI series between South Africa and the Netherlands follows the recently-concluded West Indies’ tour of the Proteas.

The Proteas beat the Windies 2-0 in the Test series and followed it up with a 1-1 draw in the ODI series and are currently tied 1-1 in the T20Is.

To directly qualify for the 50-over World Cup, South Africa needs to win both ODIs with over-rate penalties and then hope that Sri Lanka loses a minimum of two out of their three ODIs against New Zealand, while Ireland loses at least one of their three ODIs against Bangladesh in May.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, will head into this 50-over series after losing 1-2 to Zimbabwe in an ODI series. The Dutch are ranked 14th in the ICC ODI rankings, while South Africa is sixth in the rankings.

This will be the first time that the Netherlands will face South Africa since the Dutch scripted a famous 13-run win over the Proteas to knock them out of last year’s T20 World Cup.

As far as the head-to-head between these two countries in ODIs is concerned, South Africa boasts a perfect record having won each of their previous four games against the Netherlands.
