SDG FairBreak Invitational 2022 is a women’s T20 cricket tournament which is set to start on Wednesday, May 4. The six-team tournament will be played until May 15 in Dubai.
FairBreak Invitational 2022 is an ICC sanctioned cricket tournament which is organised by Hong Kong Cricket. The initial plan was to conduct the competition in Hong Kong itself but pandemic related issues forced the organizers to find a different venue.
Interestingly, the SDG FairBreak Invitational 2022 is the first-ever privately funded cricket tournament in women’s cricket history.
As many as 90 players, coming from 30 different countries, are set to participate in the competition. This includes Sana Mir, Suzie Bates, Dani Wyatt, Sophie Ecclestone and even Heather Knight. The tournament had no auction whatsoever for the draft, as the organizers internally sorted out the rosters.
The participating teams - Falcons, Warriors, Barmy Army, Spirit, Tornadoes and South Coast Sapphires - will play a total of 19 matches combined, including the four knockout rounds.
No Indian player has been given the green signal to participate in FairBreak Invitational 2022 as most of the current Indian women’s cricket team players are playing in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy which ends on May 4.
