The Ranji Trophy 2023-24 started on January 5 and will run till March 14 in India.

Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Ranji Trophy 2023-24  will see 38 teams compete in a total of 137 matches in the country’s premier first-class cricket tournament.

These participating teams have been split into two categories - Elite and Plate. The Elite category has 32 teams divided into four groups of eight teams each. On the other hand, there are six teams in the Plate category.

Each team in the Elite category will play the other seven teams in their group once. The top two teams from each elite group will advance to the quarter-finals.

The Plate division will also see each team play the other five sides once. The top four teams out of six will advance to the Plate group knockouts.

According to the Ranji Trophy format, the two finalists from the Plate group will be promoted to the elite group for the next season. The two bottom-placed teams from the elite groups - factoring in both points and the quotient will be relegated to the plate group.

Saurashtra are the defending champions of the Ranji Trophy after defeating Bengal by nine wickets in the 2022-23 final.

On the other hand, Mumbai are the most successful team in the annual first-class cricket domestic competition with 41 titles. 

Ranji Trophy Points System

Each team is awarded six points for a win in the league stages of both divisions in Ranji Trophy. 

Additionally, a team get a bonus point if they win the game by an innings or 10 wickets

In case of a drawn match, three points are awarded to the team with first innings lead while the opposition team gets a solitary point.

The teams will be awarded three points each in case of a tie after they played two innings each.

No points are awarded to the team that suffers a defeat. Get Ranji Trophy 2023-24 points table.
