Panesar to Iyer: Play county cricket to prove himself
Shreyas Iyer has been left out of India’s Test squad for the England tour. Ex-England spinner Monty Panesar believes it’s due to Iyer’s weak technique in swinging conditions. Panesar explained that while Iyer plays well on flat and bouncy tracks, he struggles when the ball swings. According to Panesar, Iyer plays too hard at the ball and doesn’t wait for the swing, which hurts him in English conditions.
Panesar advised that if Iyer is serious about Test cricket, he should join a county team and spend a full season in England. This would help him adjust his game and show selectors that he can handle swing bowling.
India's squad includes Shubman Gill as captain and Rishabh Pant as deputy. Other names are KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and Karun Nair. The five-Test series begins on 20 June. Virat Kohli’s absence opened a spot at No. 4, but selectors chose to back other players more suited to England’s tough conditions.
