Pakistan host England in seven-match T20I series - watch live in India

The England cricket team will square off against hosts Pakistan in a seven-match T20I series starting on Tuesday, September 20. This is England’s first visit to Pakistan since 2005. 

Led by newly-appointed white-ball captain Jos Buttler, England were scheduled to visit Pakistan last year but the tour was cancelled following New Zealand’s decision to pull out of their Pakistan tour citing safety concerns.

The England tour of Pakistan 2022 T20 series will help both the teams to prepare for the upcoming edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia starting on October 16.

Under new limited-overs head coach Matthew Mott, England have struggled in the T20I format. The Three Lions succumbed to T20I series defeats against South Africa (1-2) and India (1-2) in their last two assignments in the shortest format.

England will miss the services of Jos Buttler in the first few T20I matches vs Pakistan due to a calf injury. In the absence of Buttler, star all-rounder Moeen Ali will captain the side.

Interestingly, the visitors have named uncapped players in their T20 squad for the Pakistan series. Tom Helm, Luke Wood, Will Jacks, Jordan Cox and Olly Stone are added to their 20-man squad but they won’t feature at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Meanwhile, Pakistan cricket team will look to bounce back after suffering a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 final in Dubai.

Star left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi will miss the England series due to injury, but is expected to feature at the T20 World Cup.

Swashbuckling batter Fakhar Zaman has also been rested after a disappointing Asia Cup 2022 campaign where he scored 96 runs in seven T20Is at an average of 13.71.

All-rounder Aamir Jamal and Sindh’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed have been added to the 18-man squad.

The first three matches of the seven-match T20 series will be played at National Stadium in Karachi while the remaining four matches are scheduled to be held in Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

England have a dominant head-to-head record against Pakistan in T20I cricket, winning 14 of the 21 matches that they have played so far. Pakistan have secured just six victories. One match ended in no result.
