A confident Pakistan cricket team will lock horns with Australia in semi-final 2 of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday, November 11.

Pakistan are the only team in the tournament who are yet to taste defeat. The Men in Green started off with an impressive 10-wicket win over rivals India which more or less set the tone for the rest of their group stage games.

Five-wicket wins over New Zealand and Afghanistan were followed by commanding victories against Namibia and Scotland as the team finished the group stage at the top of the standings with 10 points from five matches.

Australia, on the other hand, made a winning start too, but suffered an eight-wicket loss against England. The Aussies were helped by South Africa’s group stage result against England en-route to the semis.

South Africa vs England was, in fact, the deciding match for the Aussies. The Proteas needed to beat England by a significant margin to take their net run rate above Australia to qualify for the semis.

Temba Bavuma’s men did beat Eoin Morgan’s team but a victory by 10 runs gave Australia safe passage to the semi-finals as the Aussies eventually finished in second spot in Group 1 of the Super 12s with eight points and qualified courtesy a superior net run rate of +1.216 as compared to South Africa’s +0.739.

Pakistan vs Australia head-to-head in T20 World Cups

There is absolutely nothing to separate the two teams as far as the Pakistan vs Australia head-to-head record in T20 World Cups is concerned. The two nations have met six times in the last six T20 World Cups and have won three matches each.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2016 saw Australia beating Pakistan by 21 runs. Before that, Pakistan had gotten the better of Australia in 2014 and 2012. The two teams played each other twice in the ICC T20 World Cup 2010; once in the group stage and once in the semi-finals with the Aussies winning on both those occasions. Their first-ever meeting in the tournament came in the 2007 T20 World Cup and it was Pakistan who emerged victorious with six wickets.

Overall, Pakistan and Australia have played 23 T20Is between them, with the former winning 13 of those matches. Australia have won nine while one match was abandoned.
