Most wickets in BPL 2024: Know the leading wicket-takers in Bangladesh Premier League

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 began on January 19 and ended on March 1.

Organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as many as seven teams will play a total of 46 T20 matches across three venues in BPL 2024.

Some of the most talented T20 bowlers including the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Nabi, Mahedi Hasan, Richard Ngarava and Tanvir Islam participated in the Bangladesh Premier League.

In this season, Shoriful Islam from Durdanto Dhaka bagged the most number of wickets (22) in 12 matches. 

In 2023, Comilla Victorians’ Tanvir Islam and Rangpur Riders’ Hasan Mahmud finished with the most wickets in BPL. While left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam bagged 17 wickets in 12 matches, right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud claimed the same number of wickets in 14 matches.

Meanwhile, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan holds the record for the most wickets in BPL history. Between 2012 and 2024, the left-arm spinner has picked up 138 wickets in 105 matches with three four-wicket hauls and one fifer.

Sri Lanka’s Chaturanga de Silva took the first wicket in BPL 2024. The left-arm spinner dismissed Comilla Victorians’ captain Litton Das in the opening game of the T20 tournament. 

Fortune Barishal pacer Khaled Ahmed was the first bowler to claim a four-wicket haul in BPL 2024. Ahmed recorded match-winning figures of 4/31 against Rangpur Riders to help his side win the game by five wickets at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Apart from Ahmed, the likes of Mahedi Hasan, Shoriful Islam, Richard Ngarava, Tanvir Islam and Bilal Khan were in contention to be the top wicket-taker of BPL 2024.
