LPL 2025: Jaffna Kings and Colombo Strikers terminated by the SLC

Despite the upcoming Lanka Premier League 2025, the Sri Lanka Cricket pushed through their decision to terminate the contracts of Jaffna Kings and Colombo Strikers due to ‘failure to fulfil their contractual obligations.’
The board released a statement saying, ‘Sri Lanka Cricket and the IPG Group (the LPL's organising partners) remain committed to upholding the integrity, standards, and success of the Lanka Premier League.’ Despite hinting at a major violation committed by the two teams, the board remained silent and hasn’t released additional details yet.
Now that the remaining two original owners are out, all five pioneers are removed from the Lanka Premier League. With these two exits, the LPL has no franchise owners with a history beyond 2024.
What is the Lanka Premier League?
The LPL is a T20 format cricket league that was established in 2020. The first five original owners were the Colombo Kings, Dambulla Vikings, Galle Gladiators, Kandy Tuskers, and the Jaffna Stallions. All teams represent the major provinces in Sri Lanka.
The ownership of the teams changed, and their names did as well. All five teams changed names and ownership in 2021, but the only team that managed to span four years are the Jaffna Kings (previously Jaffna Stallions).
