Washington Sundar, Avesh Khan and Shubman Gill have all been ruled out of India’s five-match Test series against England after succumbing to injuries.

Spin all-rounder Washington Sundar had to take an injection to his right-hand bowling finger but his recovery is slated to take longer than expected, ruling him out of the remainder of the England tour.

Pacer Avesh Khan, meanwhile, suffered a blow to his left thumb on Day 1 of a warm-up game and has been nursing the injury ever since. He underwent an X-Ray, which confirmed a fracture. Following consultation with a specialis, Avesh was ruled out of the England tour as well.

Opener Shubman Gill was the first among the trio to pick up a knock when he sustained a developing stress reaction on his left lower leg (shin) during the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. The extent of the fracture was confirmed via an MRI scan and as a result, he too will miss the England tour and has flown back to India.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, has recovered from COVID-19 following two negative RT-PCR tests and has begun his preparations for the upcoming Test series after receiving clearance from BCCI’s medical team.

Bowling coach B. Arun, Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran have finished self-isolating in London and have joined the team in Durham. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav as replacements for India’s injured personnel.
