Former England skipper Michael Vaughan believes that the Mumbai side in the Indian T20 league is the best T20 team in the world. The Yorkshireman further stated that he would love to play under Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma and even praised the star batsman for his supreme leadership.

“Mumbai, the best T20 team in the world without any question. He (Rohit)  is a magnificent leader; he is calm and composed; his strategies are very clever and I could see myself next to Rohit,” Vaughan told Crictracker in an interview.

Recently, former India cricketer and chief selector Kiran More too vouched for Rohit to lead the Indian cricket team in white-ball cricket. In the recent past, many ex-cricketers have questioned why Rohit has not been given the full-time responsibility to lead the national team in the limited-overs format, despite his staggering numbers in the Indian T20 league.

Although Mumbai failed to win the Indian T20 league for the first five years, their fortunes turned midway in 2013, when former Australian captain Ricky Ponting stepped down for Rohit to lead the side. Since then, the Mumbai outfit has won five titles till now - the most by any side in the competition.

Last year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mumbai became only the second Indian T20 league team to defend their crown successfully. However, the celebrated Mumbai line-up didn’t produce their best performance in the 2021 edition, which was postponed earlier in May due to the rising Covid-19 cases inside the bio-bubble.

At the moment, Mumbai are placed fourth on the points table with four wins and three losses. Once the league resumes later in the year in the UAE, all eyes will once again be on Rohit Sharma and whether he will be able to turn things around.
