Veteran auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed on Saturday during the first session of the Indian T20 League 2022 mega auction.
The 62-year-old British auctioneer collapsed on the dais while the bidding war continued for Sri Lanka cricket team all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.
During the unfortunate incident, the cameras were focused on Team Bangalore and Team Punjab as the teams were locked in an intense bidding war for the Sri Lankan star when a sudden loud sound was heard. Everyone present at the auction appeared to be shocked and tense.
Hugh Edmeades was immediately moved out of the hall in Bengaluru as he received a round of applause from the members present at the auction.
Later, official broadcasters Star Sports informed that Edmeades is in stable condition and is receiving medical help. In another update, the Indian T20 League’s official Twitter account stated that Edmeades suffered the fall due to Postural Hypotension.

“Mr. Hugh Edmeades, the Indian T20 League Auctioneer, had an unfortunate fall due to Postural Hypotension during the Indian T20 League Auction this afternoon,” the official tweet read.
“The medical team attended to him immediately after the incident & he is stable. Mr. Charu Sharma will continue with the Auction proceedings today,” it added.
Interestingly, Edmeades first conducted the Indian T20 League auction in 2019. Since then, he has conducted four consecutive Indian T20 League auctions.
Orthostatic hypotension or Postural hypotension is a form of low pressure that happens when you go from lying down or sitting up, or from sitting to standing. Low blood pressure leads to a reduction in blood flow to organs and muscles which can cause a person to fall.
With Hugh Edmeades medically advised to not return to the auction, presenter Charu Sharma has stepped in to be the auctioneer for the rest of Day 1 of the Indian T20 League 2022 mega auction on Saturday.
Who is auctioneer Hugh Edmeades?
Born in the United Kingdom, Hugh Edmeades has successfully conducted 2700 auctions around the globe.
The 60-year-old is an international fine art, classic car and charity auctioneer. In his 36-year-old career, Edmeades was the auctioneer at Bond's Aston Martin, Mandela's birthday celebration and Eric Clapton's guitar.
