The Indian women’s cricket team will lock horns with hosts England in a limited-overs series starting on Saturday, September 10. The India Women tour of England 2022 comprises three T20Is followed by three ODIs, which are part of the ICC Championship.
Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women head into the England tour high on confidence after bagging the silver medal in the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 competition at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham last month. India suffered a nine-run defeat to Australia in the final at Edgbaston.
India have announced their white-ball squads for the England series. Smriti Mandhana will serve as deputy to captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
Wicketkeeper batter Yastika Bhatia and Harleen Deol were dropped from the T20I squad featured at the CWG 2022.
Richa Ghosh replaces Yastika Bhatia for the wicketkeeper spot while swashbuckling middle-order batter KP Navgire has received her maiden India call-up.
Meanwhile, veteran fast bowler Jhulan Goswami and in-form batter Jemimah Rodrigues return to the ODI set-up after missing the Sri Lanka series. However, leg-spinner Poonam Yadav has been axed from the ODI squad.
The England women’s cricket team has also announced their 14-member squad for the upcoming T20 internationals.
The hosts will miss the services of captain Heather Knight, who continues to recover from a hip surgery she sustained last month. In the absence of Knight, Nat Sciver will lead the England side.
Star pacer Katherine Brunt has been rested for the limited overs series against India. Fast bowler Lauren Bell has earned her maiden call as she replaces 37-year-old Brunt.
England, however, are yet to name their ODI squad for the forthcoming series.
All the six matches between England and India will be played at different venues. While the first T20I is scheduled to be held at the Riverside in Durham, the remaining two T20Is will be played at County Grounds in Derby and Bristol.
The ODI matches are scheduled at County Ground in Hove, Canterbury and Lord’s in London.
