The Indian cricket team will lock horns with West Indies in a two-match Test series in the Caribbean starting on Wednesday, July 12.

The upcoming two-match Test series is part of the third edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

India’s tour of West Indies 2023 will begin with the first Test to be played at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica from July 12-16. The second and final Test will be hosted at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from July 20-24.

Led by captain Rohit Sharma, the visitors have dropped experienced batter Cheteshwar Pujara from their 16-member squad.

Meanwhile, following his impressive showing in the WTC 2023 final, Ajinkya Rahane has been named the vice-captain of the side.

The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikward and Mukesh Kumar have earned their maiden India Test call-up.

In the bowling department, pace spearhead Mohammed Shami has been rested for the two-match Test series. 

Pacer Navdeep Saini has been added to the squad, while speedster Umesh Yadav has been axed from the Test squad.

On the other hand, the West Indies cricket team has announced a 13-man squad for the first Test against India in Dominica.

All-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican have made a return to the West Indies Test squad.

Uncapped Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze have also been added to the squad for the opening Test.

West Indies have a superior head-to-head record against India in Test cricket, winning 30 of the 98 matches played between these two cricketing giants. India have registered 22 victories against West Indies in cricket’s longest format.

However, the Indian cricket team has not lost a Test match against the Windies since 2002.
