The Indian women’s cricket team will square off against Thailand in their Women’s Asia Cup 2022 semi-final at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh on Thursday, October 13. The match will start at 8:30 AM IST (Indian Standard Time).
India stormed into the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 semi-final after finishing at the top of the standings with 10 points from six matches.
Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana, India started their campaign with an impressive 41-run victory over Sri Lanka.
The Women in Blue went on to beat Malaysia by 30 runs (D/L method) and followed it up by hammering United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 104 runs.
However, India suffered a 13-run defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan in their fourth match of the tournament.
The Ramesh Powar-coached side bounced back to defeat defending champions Bangladesh by 59 runs and ended their league phase with a dominant nine-wicket win over Thailand.
On the other hand, the Thailand women’s cricket team pipped reigning champions Bangladesh to squeeze into the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 semi-finals.
Having registered three wins and as many losses, Thailand Women finished fourth in the league phase with six points from six matches.
While the Naruemol Chaiwai-led Thailand stunned Pakistan in the league phase while also securing victories over UAE and Malaysia, they have succumbed to defeats against much-fancied opponents like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
India Women vs Thailand Women head-to-head
India Women have a dominant head-to-head record against Thailand Women in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup history, winning all their four matches in 2012-13, 2016-17, 2018 and 2022 editions.
The last time these two sides met in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup, India bundled out Thailand for 37 in 15.1 overs before chasing the target in six overs and nine wickets in hand.
Going by recent form and past head-to-head results, India Women will start as overwhelming favourites to advance to Saturday’s Women’s Asia Cup 2022 final.
