Indian batsman KL Rahul regained his form in style during the first ODI match against England in Pune as he came third down to score an unbeaten 62 off 43 balls to ensure that the hosts crossed the 300 mark while batting first.
England’s tour of India didn’t start off well for KL Rahul though, as the batsman remained out of form in the entire T20I series that eventually saw him getting dropped for the decider. However, Rahul has now seemingly regained his form now and stated that less game time made him rusty.
"As a batsman I feel being in the middle and playing games is what keeps me in good touch," said KL Rahul ahead of India’s second ODI against England on Friday, March 26.
"Having not got as much game time as I would have liked, I mean I won't say it did not play on my mind, but somehow or the other you have to find a way to be best prepared, be it at training or open net sessions.
"In terms of that, I tried to prepare in the best way possible but having said that, nothing beats game time," he added.
Apart from a struggling form, KL Rahul also has to deal with the rise of players like Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, all of whom look to be in terrific form and ready to take Rahul’s batting slot in the team.
But, competition doesn’t bother the batsman, who won the orange cap in Indian T20 League 2020 with a massive 670 runs in 14 matches.
"Look when you are a part of this Indian team you know that competition is going to be really, really high and you can never sit back and feel comfortable like you own a position,” Rahul said.
“You will always be challenged and that's how it is. Our country has got a lot of talent, you will always try to push yourself and keep training harder and working on your game. And when opportunity comes, try to grab it with both hands," he said.
India will look to wrap up the series on Friday with a 1-0 lead already established in the three-match series.
