The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 begins on February 10 in South Africa, with the hosts taking on Sri Lanka in the opening match.

The first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup took place in 2009 and this will be the eighth edition of the tournament. England won the inaugural edition by defeating New Zealand in the final by six wickets.

Australia have been the most successful team in this competition, lifting the T20 crown five times, including the last time in 2020 where they defeated India in the final at Melbourne Cricket Ground. They previously won it in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018.

Meg Lanning’s side will face Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in their first game on February 11, whilst last edition’s runners up, India, will face arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening match on February 12.

West Indies are the other team to have won the T20 World Cup having lifted the trophy in 2016 after beating Australia in the final at Eden Gardens. Their 2023 T20 World Cup campaign will begin on February 11 against England.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, with 10 teams divided into two groups. Group A consists of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, while Group B will include England, India, Pakistan, West Indies and Ireland.

The teams finishing in the top two positions in their respective groups will reach the semi-finals, which will be played on February 23 and February 24. The final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 will be held at Newlands, Cape Town, on February 26.
