Bangladesh’s premier 50-over tournament, the Dhaka Premier League 2022 started on Tuesday, March 15.

The ongoing edition of the tournament features 11 teams namely Abahani Limited, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Gazi Group Cricketers, Legends of Rupaganj, Rupaganj Tigers, Prime Bank Cricket Club, Brothers Union, Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity, Shinepukur Cricket Club, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and City Club.

As per the format of the tournament, every team will against the other side once in a round-robin format. The top six teams then play each other in the Super League once. The two bottom-placed sides in the league phase will be relegated to Dhaka's first division league.

India Test specialists Hanuma Vihari and Abhimanyu Easwaran are among seven Indian players who will feature in the ongoing DPL 2022.

The other Indian cricketers taking part are Parvez Rasool, Baba Aparajith, Ashok Menaria, Chirag Jani and Gurinder Singh. Interestingly, all these seven players went unsold at the Indian T20 League mega auction held in Bengaluru in February.

While Vihari has signed for Abahani Limited, Easwaran will play for Prime Bank. Jammu and Kashmir cricketer Rasool, on the other hand, has been roped in by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi while Aparajith will play for Rupganj Tigers.

Menaria looks set to represent Khelaghar and Jani will play for Legends of Rupganj while Gurinder will be a part of the Gazi Group Cricketers setup.

The likes of Vihari, Easwaran, Aparajith, Menaria and Rasool had previously participated in the Dhaka Premier League during the 2019-20 season before the coronavirus pandemic struck. Former India cricketers Dinesh Karthik, Manoj Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan have also signed for DPL teams in previous editions.

Every team has been allowed to rope in one foreign player with Pakistani cricketer Mohammed Hafeez signing for Mohammedan Sporting while Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza will play for Shinepukur Cricket Club.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s international cricketers will miss the first few rounds of DPL 2022 as they are currently touring South Africa for three ODIs and two Tests.
