Cricket South Africa has announced that the CSA One Day Cup 2022 will start on March 11 with the final scheduled to be held on April 6.

Formerly known by several different names like the One Day Cup, MTN Domestic Championship and the Standard Bank Cup, the CSA One Day Cup is South Africa’s premier domestic tournament.

Transvaal - now called Gauteng - won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 1981-82. The annual tournament provides a platform for young cricketers in South Africa to showcase their talent.

The eight teams that will battle for the upcoming edition of the CSA One Day Cup are Knights, Dolphins, North West Dragons, Western Province, Lions, Warriors, Titans and Rocks.

As per the format, the tournament will be played in both Division One and Two leagues based on promotion and relegation. The competition will comprise home and away matches in a round-robin format, with the top two teams qualifying for the CSA One Day Cup 2022 final.

The competition will be hosted in multiple grounds in South Africa with each venue allowing a maximum of 1,500 fully vaccinated spectators.

The last edition of the tournament was played in a bio-bubble environment, with the title shared by the Dolphins and Lions.

“This tournament has always provided opportunities for our domestic cricketers to showcase their talent and this year will be no different as it offers a larger talent-pool with the competition running for the two divisions,” CSA Acting Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki said.

“Our stadiums will evaluate the readiness and feasibility to host supporters based on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and applicable regulations,” Moseki added.
