The 2022 Commonwealth Games’ women’s T20 cricket tournament will run from July 29 to August 7, according to the schedule released by the organisers.

All matches of the tournament will be played at the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium in Birmingham. The fixtures are yet to be announced.

Eight teams will participate in this event and the group stage matches will be played till August 4. Meanwhile, the semi-finals are scheduled for August 6 and the final and the playoff for the third place (bronze medal) will take place on August 7.

"With 11 days of swimming and diving, eight days of cricket, eight days of gymnastics and 7 days of athletics, including the marathon, the summer of 2022 is set for a spectacular home Games," the official website stated.

England, Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and a nation from the Caribbean have all qualified for the event

Since the cricketers from the Caribbean represent different countries, a qualifying tournament for those Islands will be played to determine who goes through to the main tournament in Birmingham.

Furthermore, the eighth spot will be allocated to the winners of a qualifying event that’s slated to be held by January 31, 2022.

Besides hosts England, all other countries qualified based on their T20I rankings as of April 2021. Currently, the Indian women’s team is third in the ICC rankings behind leaders Australia and England.

It will only be the second time that cricket will feature in the Commonwealth Games.

Back in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, the men’s 50-over competition was played for the very first time with South Africa winning gold. However, it will be a debut for the women’s game as well as the T20 format.
