The South Africa U-19 cricket team will travel to Bangladesh to compete in a five-match Youth One-Day International (ODI) series starting on Thursday, July 6.
The upcoming ODI series will be crucial for South Africa in order to get used to subcontinent conditions ahead of the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 to be held in Sri Lanka.
Under head coach Malibongwe Maketa, South Africa have announced their 15-member squad for the Bangladesh tour.
Liam Alder and Kwena Maphaka, who featured at the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 in the Caribbean, have been added to the squad.
The likes of Juan James, Dewan Marais, Richard Seletswane and David Teegar have also been named in the Junior Proteas squad. These four youngsters were part of the SA U-19 team that won the CSA T20 Knockout competition last season.
South Africa selected their 15-man squad after a four-day selection camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria.
On the other hand, the Bangladesh U-19 cricket team has also named their squad for the first three matches of the upcoming Youth ODI series. The hosts will be led by Ahrar Amin.
The first first three matches of the Youth ODI series will be played at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, while the remaining two ODIs will be hosted at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
In the last few years, Bangladesh have a superior head-to-head record against South Africa in Under-19 cricket, having won three of their last five meetings.
However, South Africa registered a thrilling two-wicket win over Bangladesh during their Seventh-Place Playoff clash at the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 in the Caribbean.
