Having failed to make it to the semifinals of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, Bangladesh parted ways with their head coach Steve Rhodes on Tuesday.

An eighth-placed finish at the 2019 edition seems to have gone against Rhodes, who was tasked to take Bangladesh cricket to greater heights. The Tigers have come a long way since their World Cup debut in 1999 and this time entertained many with their spirited performances, which included wins against South Africa and the West Indies. The team largely revolved around their experienced all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, who defied odds to put up a staggering individual performance that too often than not came to his side’s rescue.

Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury in an interview with AFP stated, “We have decided to part ways with the head coach by mutual consent. The decision will be effective immediately,”

Bangladesh will travel to Sri Lanka next and will be without most of the support staff that accompanied them at the World Cup. The Bangladeshi board has also decided against extending the contracts of fast-bowling coach Courtney Walsh and spin coach Sunil Joshi.
