Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison became a social media trend when he brought out drinks for the team during a T20 match between the PM’s XI and Sri Lanka at Manuka Oval on Thursday.

The match itself would not have made many headlines as it was only a warm-up game for Sri Lanka to prepare for its upcoming T20I series against Australia, but Morrison’s antics meant that social media generated a storm over it.

Many users pointed out what a nice gesture it was from the Aussie premier:

While social media went gung-ho over the gesture, the Sri Lankan team will not have felt the same way. They batted first but could only put a measly 131/8 in their 20 overs.

The Australia PM’s XI, led by Peter Siddle, had a poor time with the bat themselves, with opener Harry Nielsen waging a lone battle as he scored a 50-ball 79. He got out in the first ball of the final over but Fawad Ahmed ensured that they got over the line to win a thriller.

Sri Lanka are touring Australia for three T20s, with the first one set to be played on October 27. The series also marks the return of Steve Smith and David Warner to the Australian T20 fold for the first time after their infamous ban.
