The Australia cricket team will square off against the West Indies cricket team in two Tests in the second leg of the West Indies tour of Australia 2022.
The upcoming Tests will be both sides’ first assignment following their disappointing campaigns at the recently concluded T20 World Cup. While West Indies got ousted in the qualifying rounds, the hosts couldn’t progress beyond the group stage.
In the first leg of the series, which took place ahead of the T20 World Cup, the hosts won the two T20Is by three wickets and 31 runs, respectively.
Veteran Aussie batter David Warner was named the Player of the Series for finishing as the leading run-scorer, having amassed 89 runs in two matches, including a half-century.
The focus now shifts to the red-ball format of the game, which will be the first Test series between the two teams since the 2015-16 season.
As a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023, the upcoming Tests will play a crucial role in shaping the points table. Moreover, Australia cannot afford to drop their shoulders, having narrowly missed out on the final last time out.
Currently, the Pat Cummins-led side is at the top of the table with 84 points. They have won six matches, drawn three and lost one in the three Test series that they have played in the ongoing cycle.
On the other hand, the Windies are sixth with 54 points, having won four, lost three and drawn two in the four series played in the 2021-2023 period.
