Afghanistan and Netherlands will clash in a three-match ODI series starting Friday, January 21. All matches in the series will be played at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The series is part of the World Super League cycle.

This will be the first bilateral series between the two countries since 2009, where Afghanistan and Netherlands shared the spoils after the two-match series ended 1-1.

The Afghans, for starters, will be without star all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and pacer Naveen-ul-Haq. Nabi ruled himself out of the series to pave the way for younger players to get a chance in the team. Afghanistan have included four uncapped players in Riaz Hassan, Mohammad Saleem Safi, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Shahidullah Kamal in their squad.

Meanwhile, Netherlands coach Ryan Campbell has selected his ODI squad ‘with an eye for the future’. Asad Zulfiqar has been added as a strong batting and backup wicket-keeper option, while youngsters Aryan Dutt and Boris Gorlee will be the bowlers to watch out.

Afghanistan and Netherlands have played six ODI matches so far, with the Afghans winning four and losing two.
