The Afghanistan vs Ireland one-off Test 2024 will start at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on February 28.

The upcoming Test match is part of a multi-format series which also includes three one-day internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is.

Ranked 11th in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, Afghanistan last played a Test match against Sri Lanka earlier this month. The visitors lost to Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the only Test of the series at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo.

Ahead of the Ireland series, the Afghanistan cricket team has announced their 16-member squad to be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been included in the Afghanistan Test squad. The flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter is in line for a potential Test debut.

Uncapped leg-spinner Khalil Gurbaz has also been added to the squad.

Meanwhile, Yamin Ahmadzai and Mohammad Salim, who were part of Afghanistan's recent squad for the one-off Test against Sri Lanka, have been ruled out due to injuries.

On the other hand, the Ireland cricket team will be led by Andrew Balbirnie in Abu Dhabi.

Ireland are currently one place below Afghanistan in the 12th spot in the ICC men’s Test rankings.

As many as four uncapped players have been included in Ireland’s Test squad.

Matthew Foster, Barry McCarthy, Theo van Woerkom, and Craig Young will be in line to make their Test debut against Afghanistan.

Interestingly, only five members of Ireland's Test squad featured in their previous Test match against Afghanistan in Dehradun in March 2019.
