The Afghanistan vs Ireland ODI Series 2024 will start in Sharjah on Thursday, March 7.

After the opening ODI, the second and third games will also be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on March 9 and 12.

Afghanistan are currently ranked ninth in the ICC Men’s ODI team rankings while Ireland are placed 13th in the rankings.

The Ireland cricket team will head into the three-match ODI series brimming with confidence after beating Afghanistan by six wickets in the Only Test of the series at the  Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi. Interestingly, it was Ireland’s first Test win in their history since being awarded Test status in June 2017.

Meanwhile, Paul Stirling will lead the 15-man Ireland side in the upcoming ODI series.

Uncapped fast bowler Matthew Foster has been included in Ireland’s ODI squad.

Ireland last played an ODI series against Zimbabwe in December last year. Ireland registered a 2-0 series win in Harare.

On the other hand, the Afghanistan cricket team will aim to return to winning ways in the ODI series.

Afghanistan will be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi while Rahmat Shah will be Hashmatullah’s deputy.

The Afghans will miss the services of their star spinners Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman due to injuries.

In their absence, uncapped spinners Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar and Nangeyalia Kharote are the two new faces added in Afghanistan's ODI squad.

Right-arm pacer Bilal Sami has been promoted from the reserves to the main squad.
