After giving an impressive fight to India in a two-match T20I series, the Ireland cricket team will host a second-string New Zealand side in a white-ball series featuring three ODIs and as many T20Is starting on Sunday, July 10.

The hosts have announced an unchanged 14-man squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against New Zealand.

Led by captain Andrew Balbirnie, Ireland almost chased down 226 against India in the second T20I to give the visitors a massive scare. However, they fell short by four runs and lost the two-match T20I series 0-2.

While uncapped wicket-keeper batter Stephen Doheny has been picked in both the ODI and T20I squads, fast bowler Conor Olphert retained his place in the T20I squad. Olphert made his international debut against India in the recently-concluded T20I series.

On the other hand, the New Zealand cricket team will miss the services of their captain Kane Williamson and several of their senior players for the Ireland series.

While left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner has been appointed the captain of the T20I squad, wicket-keeper batter Tom Latham will captain the ODI side.

Apart from Williamson, Devon Conway, Tim Southee and Trent Boult have been left out of the limited-overs series citing “commitment to player wellbeing.”

All four players participated in the Indian T20 League and were part of the three-match Test series against England. The Kiwis were whitewashed by England in the Test series.

All the three ODIs are scheduled to be played at The Village Ground in Dublin while the three T20Is will be played at Belfast’s Civil Service Cricket Club.
