The Lanka Premier League 2022 kicked off on December 6 with the 18-day tournament to be held at Hambantota, Pallekele and Colombo (RPS).

Five LPL teams - Kandy Falcons, Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Colombo Stars and Dambulla Aura - will take the field in the ongoing edition.

Reigning and two-time LPL champions Jaffna Kings beat Galle Gladiators by 24 runs in the season-opener. LPL 2022 will feature 24 matches, including the final on December 23.

Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews, Kusal Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Thisara Perera and Wanindu Hasaranga are among the top Sri Lankan players to play in LPL 2022. James Neesham, the New Zealand all-rounder, and Carlos Brathwaite and Fabian Allen from West Indies are also set to take part in the tournament.

How does the LPL points table work?

The Lanka Premier League 2022 will follow a double round-robin format for the league stage.

Each team gets awarded two points for a win and one for a tie. If two or more teams are tied on points, the team with the better Net Run Rate (NRR) will be ranked higher.

At the end of the league stage, the top four teams will make the playoffs. The first and second-ranked teams will play in Qualifier 1, with the winner advancing to the final, while the third and fourth-ranked teams will make the Eliminator. The winner of the Eliminator takes on the losing side from Qualifier 2 for a spot in the final.
