Bangalore captain Virat Kohli becomes the first player to reach 6,000 runs in the Indian T20 League. The Indian cricket team skipper achieved the feat in his 196th match in the high-profile T20 tournament.

The 32-year-old, who decided to don the role of an opener for the 2021 edition, has failed to capitalise on his starts but is poised to regain his free-scoring persona over the course of the campaign. In the game against Rajasthan on Thursday, April 22, Kohli reached the milestone calmly as he got Devdutt Padikkal to go on a rampage in their run-chase of 178.

Virat Kohli is best remembered for his exploits in the 2016 Indian T20 League, where he aggregated a whopping 973 runs as he led Bangalore to the final.

Virat Kohli’s tally of 973 runs still stands as the most runs by a player in a single season of the Indian T20 League.

Kohli, who has been with Bangalore since the inaugural edition in 2008, has amassed 400-plus runs in seven of his 14 campaigns. He has registered five hundreds and 40 half-centuries so far.

Additionally, Virat Kohli also held the record for the fastest Indian batter to reach 5,000 runs in T20s until KL Rahul broke his record in the fixture against Hyderabad on Wednesday.
