Jasprit Bumrah, on Saturday, became the fastest Indian pacer to reach the 50-wicket mark in Test cricket. The 25-year-old achieved the feat in only his 11th Test; while bowling his first over after Tea on day two of the first Test against West Indies. Middle-order batsman Darren Bravo was his 50th victim.

With that being done, Bumrah has now surpassed the likes of Venkatesh Prasad and Mohammad Shami, who both had achieved the landmark in 13 Test matches.

Apart from that, Bumrah also surpassed spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to reach 50 Test wickets in the fewest deliveries. While Ashwin had taken 2,597 deliveries to achieve the feat, the seamer took 2,464 balls to reach the landmark. In terms of matches and innings though, Ashwin still remains the fastest Indian to 50 Test wickets.

Meanwhile, though Bumrah entered the record books, it was Ishant Sharma’s five-fer on the back of which India dismissed West Indies for 222. Scalping three wickets in a mere seven deliveries, Sharma ended his tenure at 43/5.
