Japan is hosting Sri Lanka Emerging for a five-match T20 series that began on Wednesday, May 10 with the tourists winning the first game by five wickets.

This series is expected to aid host Japan’s preparations for the upcoming regional qualifiers for the 2024 T20 World Cup besides also developing the relationship between the two countries.

Japan is one of four teams to have qualified for the East Asia-Pacific T20 World Cup Regional Final, which is scheduled to be held in July 2023. 

The other three countries that will battle it out with Japan in the upcoming regional qualifiers are Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vanuatu.

All five matches in this series will be held at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Japan with the final match of the 20-over series slated to take place on May 15.

All-rounder Dellon Peiris will be the skipper of Sri Lanka’s Emerging team, while batter Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming will be the captain of Japan.

All the matches in this series will begin at 6:30 AM IST and the Japanese will be eager to make the most of these opportunities ahead of the East Asia-Pacific T20 World Cup Regional Final in Papua New Guinea.
