Hyderabad kept their heads held high but fell 42 runs short of their target. Captain Manish Pandey was at his brutal best tonight but matching Mumbai's total needed a little helping hand which wasn't provided. As for Mumbai, they will finish outside of the playoffs spot for the first time since 2018.

An absolute treat; that's what the match was. First it was Ishan Kishan's blistering knock then Suryakumar Yadav came into the foray as Mumbai posted 235/9 on board. Hyderabad started well too but wickets kept on falling. Manish Pandey, however, was a constant and on the back of his 41-ball 69, Hyderabad managed to put on a fight.

"Very hot day today, a lot of work in the field to start with, an intense 20 overs for us as a bowling unit, and I batted for a long time today, and both my calves are cramping," said Manish Pandey after the match.

"Best surface we've played on in this tournament. We knew Mumbai would come hard at us, and they did. I thought we could have bowled a little better, our fast bowlers gave away a few extra runs and that cost us in the end. We won only three games, we had a lot of changes in the side, and they didn't work for us.

"We were struggling a little bit, even in the early games in Chennai. We tried to do better in the second half, but unfortunately, we could not. We only had a few individual performances, but no complete team performance."

Here's how the match panned out:

Game set and match!

That's the end of the final league stage match. Mumbai win the match by 42 runs but it was not good enough. The task at hand was anyway mountainous. They finish the group stage outside of the playoffs spots for the first time since 2018.

Guess who won the league that year. Chennai!

The game was an absolute run-fest, to say the least with three players - across two teams - scoring quickfire half-centuries. Great piece of batting there from Hyderabad too after a rather sluggish performance with the ball. They will finish the 2021 Indian T20 League at the bottom of the table.

WICKET! Top catch from Coulter-Nile

Bit of trickery there from Nathan Coulter-Nile but he manages to take the catch. Wriddhiman Saha departs and the game is set.

Hyderabad: 182/8 after 19 overs.

WICKET! Simple catch there

Another slow delivery by Jasprit Bumrah catches Rashid Khan off guard. The Afghanistan all-rounder gives away his catch to the bowler, who picks his second wicket of the evening.

Hyderabad: 177/7

Required rate slipping away

The required run rate is slipping away from Hyderabad. They are batting at just over 10 runs per over and need 20.82 runs per over to get a win.

Hyderabad: 176/6 after 17 overs

WICKET! Holder departs

And that's the first wicket for Trent Boult. He dismisses Jason Holder who departs after scoring a solitary run. The former West Indies captain looked to clear the front leg but gives his catch to Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Hyderabad: 166/6

FIFTY comes up for Manish Pandey

A calm, stable and captain's innings by Manish Pandey. He brings up his fifty in just 30 balls and followed it up with a brilliant boundary.

Hyderabad: 166/5 after 16 overs.

WICKET! The partnership is broken

First wicket for Jasprit Bumrah as Priyam Garg walks back. A tricky slower ball was lofted straight and Garg missed the timing altogether. Hardik Pandya comes in and takes an easy catch.

Hyderabad: 156/5

Good over for Hyderabad

Quite a good over for Hyderabad that as Neeshan conceded 16 runs off it. Priyam Garg hit a six and a boundary while Manish Pandey got a four.

Hyderabad are batting at 10.58, but need 13.56 runs per over.

Hyderabad: 127/4 after 12 overs.

CLOSE... But not enough

Jimmy Neesham with a huge appeal, but the umpire is not having it. Mumbai have no reviews left and there's nothing they can do.

That's anyway a correct decision as the tracker shows the ball is missing the stumps.

Hyderabad: 105/4 after 10 overs
