Game, set and match!

11:20 PM IST - David Warner in his post-match interview: "I don't know how to take that. Two of us got set, my run out, Jonny stepping on his wickets, and false shots in the middle proved that if you don't have two guys at the end, you don't win.

"These scores are very chaseable, it's just poor batting. If you get a partnership and have one guy at the end, you can chase down 150 easily. You just need smart cricket in the middle, we aren't doing that. I think our bowlers adapted well to this wicket, it's slower than the ones we played on earlier. We've got to learn from the mistakes and right now it's just the batsmen. We've got to take responsibility. Got to move forward, put some smiles on our faces. Have been speaking to the physio and Williamson is coming along nicely and I'm sure if he's ready to go he might get an opportunity."

11:12 PM IST - Mumbai pick their second win of the 2021 Indian T20 League, and it's Trent Boult again who picks the final wicket. It's the same old story for Hyderabad, who started promising in their run chase but a middle-order collapse resulted in their third consecutive defeat of the season. Their record at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium stays intact. They are still without a win at the venue in the competition.

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow were the only potential threat for Mumbai, to say the least. The two, put together, scored more runs than the other players from the team combined. Since 2020, Hyderabad have won just four of their 13 run chases in the Indian T20 League. This was their eighth defeat while chasing in the league.

Rahul Chahar turns out to be the best bowler from the lot. The spinner picked three wickets while conceding just 19 runs in his four overs.

Boult with a scorcher

11:10 PM IST - Boult misses out on a hat-trick, but picks his second wicket of the match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar simply had no answer to his scorching yorker.

Hope's lost?

11:06 PM IST - Vijay Shankar attempts a biggie but fails to make a strong connection with the ball. Suryakumar Yadav takes the catch as Bumrah picks his first wicket of the game.

Hardik, Boult strike quick

11:00 PM IST - While Hardik Pandya's second direct hit runs out Abdul Samad, Trent Boult's yorker sends back Rashid Khan for a duck. Hyderabad's chase curse continues. Mumbai 150/5 after 20 overs, Hyderabad 130/7 after 18 overs.

Then and Now

Strategic timeout - Can Hyderabad do it?

10:47 PM IST - An expensive over by Krunal Pandya eases the situation for Hyderabad in their chase. Double sixes by Vijay Shankar brings the asking rate to 7.75. Mumbai 150/5 after 20 overs, Hyderabad 120/5 after 16 overs.

Rahul Chahar finishes with three scalps

10:42 PM IST - After a four-wicket haul in the previous game, Rahul Chahar bags three - two wickets in his final over - against Hyderabad to put Mumbai back into the driver's seat.

Equation now reads as 47 runs needed off 30 balls. Achievable? Mumbai 150/5 after 20 overs, Hyderabad 104/5 after 15 overs.

Hardik runs out Warner

10:22 PM IST - Never say never again! - that's the attitude Hardik Pandya had as he fired a direct throw at the striker's end to dismiss Hyderabad captain David Warner. Perhaps the turning point of this game? Mumbai 150/5 after 20 overs, Hyderabad 92/3 after 12 overs.

Pandey gifts wicket to Chahar

10:10 PM IST - Under-fire for his lack of intent, Manish Pandey deepened his woes as he scoops a shot off Rahul Chahar towards Kieron Pollard at long-off. The trajectory of the chase is slowly shifting in favour of Mumbai. Mumbai 150/5 after 20 overs, Hyderabad 71/2 after nine overs.

Breakin' Bairstow

10:01 PM IST - A fine inning by Jonny Bairstow comes to an end as the Hyderabad opener tries to sweep a boundary albeit hitting the stumps with his foot. Krunal Pandya is all smiles and so is Mumbai. Mumbai 150/5 after 20 overs, Hyderabad 68/1 after eight overs.

Bairstow-Warner ship eases past Powerplay overs

9:52 PM IST - From 5/0 in the second over to 42/0 in the third over, Jonny Bairstow accelerated the Hyderabad innings and has put his side in a comfortable position at the end of the powerplay overs. David Warner appears relaxed as the likes of Trent Boult and Adam Milne were punished.

The first strategic timeout is brought in. Mumbai 150/5 after 20 overs, Hyderabad 57/0 after six overs.

Hyderabad start run chase!

9:20 PM IST - Swashbuckling openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner take the crease for Hyderabad. Mumbai have Trent Boult with the new ball, who can do serious damage as well! The first six overs will be absolutely crucial for the match here, as we saw in the last match. Here we go!

Mumbai reach 150!

9:10 PM IST - Bhuvi keeps his deliveries right on the slot as Pollard and Krunal struggle to get the sweet touch! However, the towering Kieron Pollard hits two consecutive sixes in the last two balls to help Mumbai reach 150! Hyderabad have a gettable target of 151 runs!

Hardik departs now!

9:01 PM IST - Khaleel Ahmed keeps his disciplined bowling intact as he scalps Hardik's wicket after Pollards was dropped on the previous ball by Vijay Shankar. Nothing is clicking for Mumbai here! One more to go, Mumbai 133/5.

Kishan bites the dust!

8:50 PM IST - After Kieron Pollard sends Mujeeb to the stands in the very first ball, Ishan Kishan couldn't emulate that and pressure keep piling on Mumbai! Is it just another day for the defending champions?
Mumbai 115/4 after 17 overs.

Mumbai have a lot to plan in timeout!

8:40 PM IST - Mumbai are notorious for their hard-hitting in the last five overs, and Hyderabad are well aware of that. Warner have to judiciously use Bhuvi, Mujeeb and Vijay Shankar now!

Mujeeb ends de Kock's frustration

8:33 PM IST - Quinton de Kock found it hard to score boundaries and as he aimed to go for a boundary at deep mid-wicket, substitute fielder J Suchith took a confident catch. Mumbai slightly fading after a strong start. Mumbai 98/3 after 14 overs.

Suryakumar hits a six and then exits

8:15 PM IST -  Suryakumar Yadav thought he would get the best out of Vijay Shankar's second over as he smashed a six off the second delivery. However, "SKY" lobbed his shot directly into the hands of the Hyderabad bowler who dismisses Mumbai's in-form batter.

Strategic timeout called in, and Hyderabad regroup to revise their bowling plans. Mumbai 72/2 after nine overs.

Rohit fails to convert headstart, again

8:00 PM IST - Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma aimed to send a Vijay Shankar delivery into the stands but to his bad luck, a confident Virat Singh waited to take the catch at deep midwicket. Mumbai 59/1 after seven overs.

50 up for Mumbai

7:57 PM IST - The steady partnership between Rohit Sharma (28*) and Quinton de Kock (16) seems unbreakable at present. With the run rate at 9 r.p.o, the defending champions appear to be on course for a 170-plus score. Mumbai 53/0 after six overs.

De Kock provides positive start

7:35 PM IST - Quinton de Kock hits two boundaries in the first over, getting Mumbai to a positive start. Hopefully they maintain the momentum. Mumbai 8/0 after one over.

Hyderabad in panic mode

7:15 PM IST - David Warner's decision to make four changes to their playing XI indicates the troubling atmosphere in the team camp. Mujeeb and Khaleel's entry into today's teamsheet is a solid boost to their bowling strengths, while Virat Singh is tipped for a positive debut.

Hyderabad aim to break Mumbai resistance

5:30 PM IST - Good evening and a warm welcome to SportsAdda’s live blog for the Indian T20 League 2021!

Mumbai and Hyderabad take on each other in the battle of equals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Rohit Sharma and Co. have done well in the bowling department so far, but need to find the right strategy to explore the raw power in their batting order. Considering how their performance against Kolkata was, it will be interesting to see how the defending champions stand up to Hyderabad's bowling.

On the flip side, Hyderabad's failures in the middle and lower order is alarming and David Warner needs a strong plan to counter the pressure from the reigning champions.
